Welcome to our Reception (Foundation Stage 2)
At Chantry Community Academy we aim to provide children with the best possible start to their school life. We inspire a love of learning through providing first-hand experiences in a nurturing, play-based environment, with adult-led activities, that incorporates and embeds our values in everything we do.
In Reception (FS2) we work hard to provide a rich and stimulating environment where your child may learn from new experiences and make good friendships with ourselves and other children. We get to know your children really well so we can cater for their individual needs by using topics and children’s current interests to plan and deliver the curriculum. We enhance our continuous provision with these topics and interests to generate curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
Right from the start of their school life at Chantry Community Academy children will be experiencing and embedding our values that will ensure that they will be ready to start their school life and move onto their next stage of learning when they leave Year 6.
Since September 2021, Chantry Community Academy has been following the new EYFS Curriculum Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage, setting the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five.
The Foundation Stage at Chantry Community Academy applies to all children joining us between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum consists of seven areas of learning and development. The curriculum shapes the educational programmes in all early years settings with each area being of equal importance.
Three areas are particularly important for building a foundation for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving.
These are the prime areas:
- communication and language
- physical development
- personal, social and emotional development
As a provider we must also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are:
- literacy
- mathematics
- understanding the world
- expressive arts and design
The Foundation Stage staff work as a team to monitor children’s progress through making observations of each child, assessments of their individual abilities and collecting evidence of a child’s achievements such as paintings, drawings, writing and photographs which we capture on an online learning journal, called Tapestry, that parents can access.
